Part One — Privacy Policy
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect through the Site, through forms and calls initiated from the Site, and through our online advertising and marketing activities. It does not apply to information governed by the attorney-client relationship or the attorney-client privilege, which is handled separately and confidentially once an engagement begins (see Section 10).
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly. When you fill out a contact or consultation form, call us, email us, or otherwise communicate with us, we collect the information you choose to give us — typically your name, phone number, email address, and the details of your legal matter or inquiry.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical and usage information through cookies, pixels, tags, and similar technologies, including your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, links clicked, referring website, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
Information from advertising and analytics partners. We receive information about how you interact with our ads and Site from platforms such as Google and Meta (Facebook/Instagram), as described in Section 4.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your inquiries and evaluate potential legal matters;
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
- Communicate with you about your inquiry, our services, and firm updates;
- Conduct marketing and advertising, including the activities described in Section 4;
- Measure and analyze Site traffic, ad performance, and user behavior;
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, security issues, and technical problems; and
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
4. Marketing, Advertising, and Analytics — How We Use Your Data [REVIEW]
We want to be clear and specific about this, because we actively use data collected through this Site for marketing and advertising purposes. By using the Site and submitting information to us, you acknowledge and consent to the following uses, except where your separate opt-in consent is required by law (such as for text messaging, below):
Online advertising and tracking. We use Google Ads and Meta (Facebook/Instagram) advertising tools, including conversion tracking, advertising pixels, and tags. These technologies allow us to measure the effectiveness of our ads, understand which ads lead to inquiries, and show you relevant ads for our services on other websites and platforms you visit (commonly called “retargeting” or “remarketing”).
Analytics. We use Google Analytics and related measurement tools to understand how visitors find and use the Site. These tools set cookies and collect usage data to generate reports about Site activity.
Email marketing. If you contact us or submit a form, we may add your email address to our marketing and follow-up email lists and send you information about our services, legal updates, and firm news. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you may opt out at any time.
Text message (SMS) marketing. [REVIEW — TCPA/consent] With your consent, we may send you text messages, including appointment reminders, responses to your inquiry, and marketing messages. Message and data rates may apply; message frequency varies. We obtain your express written consent before sending marketing text messages, and consent to receive marketing texts is not a condition of hiring the firm or receiving any service. You may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message, and you can reply HELP for help. We honor opt-out requests promptly.
Social media marketing. We maintain a presence on social media platforms and may use information about your interactions with our content and ads on those platforms to deliver and measure our marketing. Your use of those platforms is also governed by the platforms’ own privacy policies.
Audience matching. We may share limited contact information (such as a hashed, non-readable version of your email address) with advertising platforms like Google and Meta so that we can reach you and people with similar characteristics with our advertising. We do not sell your information for money.
Your controls. You can limit much of this tracking through your browser settings, the cookie controls on your device, your ad-settings pages at Google (adssettings.google.com) and Meta, and the industry opt-out tools at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org. You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functions, analytics, and advertising, as described above. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent, though some parts of the Site may not function properly without them. Where the Site presents a cookie-consent banner [REVIEW — confirm whether a cookie-consent banner is in place], your choices there also govern non-essential cookies.
6. How We Share Information
We share information with:
- Service providers who perform functions on our behalf (web hosting, email and marketing platforms, analytics providers, call handling, and similar), who are permitted to use the information only to provide services to us;
- Advertising and analytics platforms such as Google and Meta, as described in Section 4;
- Professional advisors and co-counsel where appropriate to evaluate or handle a matter; and
- Legal and safety recipients — we may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the firm, our clients, or others.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Certain data sharing for advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under California law; see Section 7 for your rights regarding this.
7. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA) [REVIEW]
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and share;
- Right to access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Right to delete personal information we have collected, subject to exceptions;
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information;
- Right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising; and
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@tprentisslaw.com or (530) 691-0245, or write to us at the Redding address above. We will verify your request before responding and will respond within the timeframes required by law. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf.
To opt out of sharing for targeted advertising, contact us using the information above. [REVIEW — California law may require a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link and recognition of opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control; confirm implementation.]
8. Data Retention and Security
We retain personal information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, to comply with our legal and ethical obligations (including rules governing retention of client and prospective-client records), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Third-Party Links
The Site may link to third-party websites and services we do not control. This Policy does not apply to those sites, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information.
10. Prospective Clients — Important Notice [REVIEW — attorney-advertising ethics]
Submitting information through this Site, emailing us, or calling us does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not make the information you send confidential or privileged. An attorney-client relationship is formed only when you and the firm sign a written engagement agreement. Please do not send us sensitive, confidential, or time-sensitive information about a legal matter until we have confirmed in writing that we represent you, and never send information about a matter in which the firm may represent an opposing party. We handle the information of actual clients in accordance with our professional and ethical obligations, which are separate from this Privacy Policy.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date above reflects the most recent version. Material changes will be posted on this page, and your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
Part Two — Terms of Use

The content on this Site is provided for general informational purposes only and is not legal advice. Reading this Site, contacting us, or submitting a form does not create an attorney-client relationship. You may opt out of marketing communications as described there.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
7. Limitation of Liability [REVIEW]
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Prentiss Law and its attorneys, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Site, whether based in contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Prentiss Law and its attorneys, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Site or your violation of these Terms.
9. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Shasta County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
